The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) has confirmed that the national men’s and women’s five-a-side hockey (hockey 5s) teams will be able to compete in next year’s Bangkok SEA Games. The council’s response follows the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) expressing concerns about their teams’ ability to compete in the multisport event – emphasising the need for preparation to secure a gold medal for Malaysia. MHC previously secured a special allocation of RM2 million from the Finance Ministry to develop its hockey 5s teams over the next five years. Leisu Sports, the Chinese streaming platform increasingly active in rights acquisitions, is to show Asean Football Federation national team and club competitions under a deal with SPORTFIVE. Leisu Sports has now exceeded 30m registered users and 110m app downloads. It was established by owner Shanghai Xuanyi Information Technology Co. as its first consumer-facing sports product. New era dawns for Singapore Sports Hub Singapore Sports Hub is entering an exciting new era after adding state-of-the-art tennis and football centres to its impressive range of venues, with a new indoor arena also on the boards, as reports John Sheehan. The Singapore Sports Hub is one of the world’s first fully integrated sports, entertainment and lifestyle destinations. Spanning a mammoth 35 hectares of land in the heart of the city, the Singapore Sports Hub houses a unique cluster of world-class facilities comprising the National Stadium, Singapore Indoor Stadium, OCBC Arena, OCBC Aquatic Centre, Water Sports Centre, Kallang Wave Mall, Singapore Sports Museum, and Shimano Cycling World. Recent additions to the complex include the Kallang Tennis Hub and the Kallang Football Hub, while a new Indoor Arena is also in planning. Officially declared open by then Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in July 2015, the Singapore Sports Hub incorporates cutting-edge, environmentally conscious design and construction. The campus comprises different multi-purpose venues with the capacity and professional expertise to host a variety of events ranging from sports and entertainment to lifestyle and community events. National agency Sport Singapore (SportSG) officially took over the facility in late 2022, ending its partnership with Sports Hub Pte Ltd (SHPL), the private consortium that had been running the $1.33-billion complex since it opened in 2014. Mitch Seeto, Head of Venue Operations at the Singapore Sports Hub, told Sports Venue Business (SVB)’s John Sheehan: "We’re a unique site here at the Singapore Sports Hub. We’ve got a number of world class venues all under the same operating team. (In addition to) the National Stadium (and) Singapore Indoor Stadium, we’ve got other world class facilities here as well, including an Aquatic Centre and a Water Sports Centre. Earlier this year, we opened the brand-new Kallang Tennis Hub and Kallang Football Hub. "The Singapore Sports Hub has got three pillars, so events obviously is one pillar but elite athlete training is another. (Singapore’s) National athletes train at a lot of our venues across the different sports. "The third pillar is community and community use, so you could be swimming in the same swimming pool a national athlete has just got out of. "It’s the same for basketball. You could be training and playing with your mates right alongside where the national basketball players trained or have just finished their session as well. So that’s quite cool." The Global Esports Federation has launched the Global Social Impact Initiative (GSII), aiming to unite the gaming community for social good. This initiative, backed by multi-million-dollar commitments from partners like Intel Corporation, Commonwealth Sport, and Infinite Reality, will run until 2030. The GSII focuses on several key areas: - Digital transformation - Education - Environmental sustainability - Equality, diversity, and inclusion - Health and wellbeing - Universal connectivity - Youth employment Through targeted programs and calls to action, the GSII aims to leverage the influence of its partners to drive significant changes in these areas. Announced at UNESCO's "Change the Game" conference during the Summer Olympics in Paris, this initiative has the potential to make a substantial impact on education and employment worldwide. In 2024, as I traveled frequently between Southeast Asia and China, my extensive observations and practical experience have led me to identify three high-potential and complementary industries that can maximize both regions' resource advantages and market demands, fostering effective integration and development. Firstly, the #sportsindustry represents a key area with significant integration potential. China possesses mature infrastructure, event management, and sports technology expertise, while Southeast Asia has a growing interest in sports. By jointly hosting regional events such as fencing and esports, both parties can expand the reach of these events, attracting more viewers and participants. Additionally, integrating sports with tourism presents a valuable opportunity. Combining the regions' tourism resources with sports activities can create attractive sports tourism products that appeal to international visitors. China’s advanced sports technology and equipment can help enhance Southeast Asia’s sports facilities, driving both technological and market advancements. Secondly, the #technologyanddigitaleconomy sector offers substantial integration value. China leads globally in internet technology, artificial intelligence, and 5G, while Southeast Asia is experiencing rapid growth in the digital economy. Cooperation in this sector can advance digital payment systems and e-commerce integration, with Chinese digital payment solutions potentially enhancing Southeast Asia's payment infrastructure. The esports sector also holds significant potential; China’s expertise and event management can boost the development of Southeast Asia’s esports market. Additionally, the integration of smart devices and IoT technology will further propel the collaborative development of the technology industry, supporting economic modernization. Lastly, the #renewableenergy and #environmentalprotection industry is crucial for addressing global environmental challenges. China has a strong advantage in clean energy technologies, while Southeast Asian countries have increasing demands for renewable energy and environmental solutions. China can export solar and wind energy equipment to Southeast Asia, assisting in energy transition efforts. Environmental technologies, such as wastewater treatment and air purification, will significantly improve Southeast Asia’s environmental management capabilities. Introducing electric vehicle technology will advance green transportation and reduce carbon emissions, injecting sustainable energy into both economies. In summary, focusing on the sports industry, technology and digital economy, and renewable energy and environmental protection enables China and Southeast Asia to leverage their respective advantages and foster economic cooperation. This approach will not only enhance the economic development of both regions but also address market demands and environmental challenges in a global context. Happy Chinese #MidAutumnFestival！

Close the gap between the best and worst players at younger ages to watch your elite player pool expand. Focusing on the top end elite levels alone is a challenge for many countries. Copying high-performance elite programs without addressing basic skills can hinder player development. In visiting 35 regional football associations in the Philippines, it's clear that fixing the entry-level of the sport is crucial. Mastering fundamental skills early leads to mastering complex movements and technical strength. Waiver of the right to training compensation. ⚽ 🔔 Clubs may negotiate and agree that the club entitled to training compensation waives that right, most often as part of a broader transfer agreement. FIFA regulations, specifically the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, do not explicitly prescribe the procedure or manner in which a club can waive this right, but they also do not prohibit such agreements. Clubs are free to enter into contracts where they can negotiate various transfer terms, which may include: ⏩ Waiving training compensation in exchange for a higher transfer fee or other benefits (e.g., performance-related bonuses), ⏩ Waiving in a friendly agreement between clubs if there is mutual interest in facilitating the transfer. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 👉 It is essential that such agreements are formalized through contracts that comply with applicable laws and regulations of both FIFA and national associations.
